When most people think of the southwest, the Saquaro Cactus readily comes to mind. It is a spectacular cactus living for more than 150 years. It takes about 30 years to begin blooming and close to 70 years old before an arm begins to bud. Their blossoms open at sunset and wilt by the next afternoon. They are truly a towering presence in the desert. AJ really enjoyed visiting this park because he finally got to see a Javelina. We searched Big Bend National Park over Spring Break but never found one. Here, we were able to watch a small herd with at least one baby rest in the shade of the visitor center. It seemed to be the highlight of his day.
