We Got That Cup

On the way to the game, the sky began looking ominous.  Not a good sign in Kansas.

We had awesome seats to the left of the goal and four rows from the field.  However, the sky began looking worse and I wondered how much longer we might have our seats since we weren't in a covered area.

The sky opened up but we were not giving up our seats.  A little rain never hurt anyone.  But you know what does hurt?  Hail and lightning.

The stadium announcer told everyone to calmly leave their seats and seek shelter as quickly as possible.  Apparently there had been several close lightning strikes and one supposedly took out one of the big screens.  It didn't work until right before the game began.

We took refuge in the foyer of the men's restroom.  I'm pretty sure eating a bucket of popcorn in the bathroom is not kosher and the fact that it was the men's restroom made it even more questionable.  Unfortunately, the women's bathroom was crowded and very hot, so we had to run to the next closest shelter.  Most of the men didn't mind, but we did freak out one guy who thought he had inadvertently entered the women's restroom.  The look on his face was priceless.

It rained for at least 30 minutes before we ventured back out to our seats.  The hail and the majority of the lightning had stopped, so we sat in the rain for probably another 20 minutes determined not to lose our seats a second time.

While we waited for the game to begin, AJ spotted a rainbow arching over the park.  It quickly turned into a double rainbow to which this picture doesn't do justice.

Another attempt at capturing the rainbow.

When the guys came out onto the field, the crowd went nuts.  Although the seats are empty here, once the weather cleared, the stands filled and we ended up with a record attendance of 18,800+ with standing room only that was 3 to 4 people deep in some areas.

The sky just kept impressing us.

A new banner in the Cauldron.  It said "For the Glory of the City".  Notice the "Welcome to the Blue Hell" sign ripped into two pieces.  The wind was gusting towards the North Stand and whipping the signs around.

After a spectacular game, the team paraded the cup around the field taking time to show it off to all the fans that stayed for the ceremony.  Sapong was making confetti angels in the paper streamer piles on the field.  The guys were so happy and acting like little kids which just made the crowd even crazier.

Jimmy painting the wall.

Jimmy and Cesar holding the cup up after painting the wall.  We were all nuts with excitement.

Daddy's shirt.  He was there in spirit.

A new sign has popped up since we left.  Vive la Frenchman!

We had someone take our picture.  The lighting wasn't great, but the memories were.
